Types of Sentences

2.     Compound Sentence

·        Two simple sentences ( or 2 main clauses) joined by ‘and’  ‘or’  ‘but’

·        Both sides of the sentence must make sense by itself

The tiger growled and the hyena laughed.

‘But’ suggests a contrast:

Bob does his share of the cleaning but Carol scarcely bothers.
